ERG Inc. to conduct independent air quality studyEastern Research Group Inc. (ERG) has been selected to conduct a comprehensive air quality assessment for the City of Fort Worth. The independent study will define what, if any, air quality impacts exist as a result of gas drilling operations in Fort Worth. ERG’s analysis may prove to be the cornerstone assessment of gas well impacts to air quality in North Texas and serve as the foundation of all future scientific evaluations of Barnett Shale air quality. Sampling is anticipated to begin in August and will continue through late November. All data and a comprehensive evaluation of the air quality impacts will be released as part of the final report, which is expected to be presented to the City Council and the public in March 2011. ERG, a nationally recognized expert in the evaluation of environmental conditions — especially air quality impacts — was recommended by the City’s Air Quality Committee. Council established the committee in March and tasked it to identify the study objectives, evaluate the qualifications of interested consultants, review the scope of work with candidate consultants and recommend a consultant and study framework to the City Council. The work plan, sampling plan, Quality Assurance Project Plan (QAPP) and other documents will be posted on this web page as they are finalized.
